THE STORY · Nº 5451
ABOUT THIS POSTER.
The road bends away into the pines and the cars lean into it, headlights sweeping across the trees as the field strings out behind them. It's June 1955 in the Sarthe countryside, the golden age of long-nosed roadsters, when a 24-hour race meant drivers sharing one car through a whole night with nothing but headlamps and nerve. Spectators camp in the woods, light bonfires and stay up to hear the engines come round again, lap after lap, until dawn. This sheet captures that atmosphere: the trees, the smoke, the speed and the feeling of being there at the edge of the road.
An original design, not a scan or reprint of a historical poster — painted in the spirit of period racing art rather than copying any existing one.
