THE DARKROOM
Black-and-white photographs in the manner of the 1920s and 30s. Ski waiters, après-ski terraces, sun terraces above the range, the winter life of the grand alpine resorts, pictured the way a press photographer of 1932 would have framed them: deep focus, low contrast, the coarse grain of fast film enlarged far beyond its comfort.
Every picture in The Darkroom is newly made for Press The World. Clothing, equipment and settings are researched to the year, from cable bindings and bamboo poles to the aircraft that really landed on the ice. Nothing here is a reproduction of a historical photograph.
