ABOUT THIS POSTER.
The original colour of the breed, the one the first registered dog wore: a sable German Shepherd standing side on, every hair tan at the root and black at the tip so the wash is laid in two depths over the engraved line, three ink head studies beneath, and a full typeset entry on the herding dog from the German hills that became the police dog, the guide dog and the soldier's dog. A portrait of the breed, not of one dog.
- Sable German Shepherd, side view, over three ink head studies
- Typeset breed entry: Deutscher Schäferhund, Germany, Since 1899, the breed society, the Kennel Club in 1919, height and weight
- Ivory paper tone, engraved line under hand-coloured wash
The image is generated with AI from our researched brief, then reworked and finished by our team in Switzerland. It is an original picture, not a reproduction of any historical artwork.
