THE STORY · Nº 4379

ABOUT THIS POSTER.

Deadly nightshade carries two of the most storied names in botany: Atropa, after Atropos, the Fate of Greek myth who cut the thread of life, and belladonna, Italian for "beautiful lady". A classic of old herbals and folklore, it is drawn here with nodding purple bell flowers, glossy black-violet berries set in star-shaped calyces and one berry still ripening, with studies of the opened flower, a stamen, the pistil, a berry in section and a seed below.

An antique-style plate in the manner of a 19th-century hand-coloured botanical engraving, on a warm ivory ground with the Latin name set beneath. A dark, elegant piece for an apothecary-style shelf or a cabinet-of-curiosities corner.

Designed in Switzerland. Printed on premium matte 200 gsm paper, 20×25 to 50×70 cm, unframed or in a black, white, wood or dark wood frame.

Premium matte paper, 200 gsm, smooth uncoated finish. Pressed in the partner studio closest to you, so it travels days, not weeks. Designed in Switzerland.
