ABOUT THIS POSTER.
Cattleya labiata, the ruffled orchid of north-east Brazil and the first Cattleya ever described, named after the English horticulturist William Cattley, in whose glasshouse it flowered in 1818. Two lilac-pink flowers open with frilled magenta lips and golden throats, beside a closed bud, broad leaves rising from ribbed pseudobulbs and a tangle of pale roots, with studies of the column, pollinia, the lip spread flat, the ovary in section and a seed capsule below.
An antique-style plate in the manner of a 19th-century hand-coloured botanical engraving, on a warm ivory ground with the Latin name set beneath. A soft, romantic note for a bedroom, a living room or a bright reading corner.
Designed in Switzerland. Printed on premium matte 200 gsm paper, 20×25 to 50×70 cm, unframed or in a black, white, wood or dark wood frame.
