ABOUT THIS POSTER.
The nutmeg tree of the Banda Islands, once so prized that the spice was worth more than its weight in gold, gives two spices from a single fruit: nutmeg, the seed, and mace, the scarlet lace wrapped around it. Pale golden fruits hang from the branch, one split open on its dark seed in its red mace, beside an unripe green fruit and a spray of small bell-shaped flowers, with studies of the flowers, a fruit in section, the seed and the marbled cut kernel below.
An antique-style plate in the manner of a 19th-century hand-coloured botanical engraving, on a warm ivory ground with the Latin name set beneath. A quiet, warm piece for a kitchen, beside the spice rack or above a baking corner.
Designed in Switzerland. Printed on premium matte 200 gsm paper, 20×25 to 50×70 cm, unframed or in a black, white, wood or dark wood frame.
